The Young Actors Academy is a two-week non-residential course for 14–17-year-olds. This fully immersive program is designed for young individuals passionate about acting for film, television, and online media. Suitable for beginners, no previous acting experience is required.

The Young Actors Academy course gives students the opportunity to participate in a variety of exercises and activities to develop the core skills required for acting on screen.

What you will study

What you will study

The following list is an overview of the topics and themes covered in the Young Actors Academy.

You will understand how an actor can approach a role to create a compelling character for the story. You will also take part in a variety of exercises focused on storytelling, creating a character and building confidence as an actor. Core acting skills covers: objectives, subtext on screen, Meisner technique, improvisation, script work, voice and movement.

The technical acting skills are designed to give you a greater confidence of working on set by understanding what key crew members do and how you work with them. You will learn how to deliver consistent performances take after take and cover the continuity and its impact on the filmmaking process.

You will learn about casting for film, TV and commercials, how they are different from each other and how to cast effectively for all three. It is important that an actor feels relaxed and comfortable in the casting process, which you’ll practice through games and filmed exercises

The filmmaking process will be explored so you understand its stages in broad terms. You will also learn the names and functions of all principle crew members. You will come to understand technical requirements such as shot sizes, director commands and set procedures.  On shooting exercises, when not acting, you will take turns as different crew members for your fellow actor’s scenes.

Entry Requirements

Minimum Age: Applicants must be under 18 years old for the entire duration of the course.

This course is open enrolment and there are no entry requirements.

In order to get the most out of the course, you should be able to both speak and write in English to a reasonable standard.

Please be aware that we have a limited number of places available for each course intake and operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Duration: Two Weeks Full-Time, Monday – Friday, Non-residential.
  • Location: MetFilm School London Campus at Ealing Studios.
