How to Apply

Postgraduate Courses at MetFilm School

Find out how to apply for postgraduate courses at MetFilm School.

Please read this information carefully as some application information differs based on whether you choose to study in the UK or in Germany at our Berlin campus.

Please note: all MA courses are taught in English and validated by BIMM University in the UK, including degrees offered at MetFilm School Berlin. All students will receive a UK Higher Education degree.

Standard Entry Requirements

  • Age: All applicants must be 18 years or older at the time the programme begins.
  • Education: A 2:1 honours degree from a UK university or overseas equivalent.

*Applicants must also submit:

A personal statement of at least 500 words. The MetFilm School online application form details the information that your personal statement must include.

Students Not Meeting Academic Requirements

Students without a degree, but who can demonstrate relevant industry experience or a degree below a 2:1 equivalent are still able to apply. They will need to submit the following:

  • A professional industry reference.
  • A professional CV.
  • A 750 word statement of why you wish to enter the screen industries, indicating the ways in which you think they are changing.

Students Not Meeting Academic Requirements (MA Film & Television Production)

Students with a degree below a 2:1 equivalent are still able to apply. They will need to submit the following to support their application:

  • A compulsory academic essay (750-1000 words)

Applicants without a 2:1 degree, but possessing relevant work experience are still able to apply. They will need to submit the following to support their application:

  • A professional industry reference.
  • A professional CV.
  • A compulsory academic essay (750-1000 words)

International Students: If English is not your first language, or if your previous education was not conducted fully in English, you will need to provide documented evidence of your English language competence to study a course with us.

Prior to applying for your student visa, you will need to demonstrate a B2 English Level, which is upper-intermediate.

For postgraduate programmes, we require an IELTS overall score of 6.5, with at least 6.5 in writing and 5.5 in listening, reading, and speaking. You must prove you can read, write, speak, and understand English to a certain level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale.

Alternatively to IELTS, the following tests are satisfactory to demonstrate B2 English Level: IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge PET, ESOL Skills for Life Level 1 and 2, Trinity Level 1. Upon receipt of your application the Admissions Team will contact you if we require proof of your language ability.

You do not need to prove your knowledge of English if you have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree in the following locations:

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Australia
  • the Bahamas
  • Barbados
  • Belize
  • the British Overseas Territories
  • Dominica
  • Grenada
  • Guyana
  • Ireland
  • Jamaica
  • Malta
  • New Zealand
  • St Kitts and Nevis
  • St Lucia
  • St Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • UK
  • USA

You do not need to prove your knowledge of English if one of the following applies:

  • You are a national of Canada
  • You are applying to come to the UK for a study abroad programme as part of a university degree course in the USA
  • You proved your level of English in a previous VISA application

How to Apply for Postgraduate Courses

Students can apply for postgraduate courses at MetFilm School directly through our website.

As part of their application for an MA programme, as well as the stated entry requirements, students will need to provide:

  • A copy of the applicant’s passport. This should clearly show the picture page and passport number.
  • A CV which is up-to-date. Including full educational history and all other work/relevant experience.
  • Creative work which will contribute towards a portfolio. Including creative writing, business proposal, film work, photography, etc. Please include these are links online in word or PDF.
  • If applicable: A copy of your degree certificate and academic transcripts.
  • If required: A professional industry reference.
  • If required: APS Certificate of the Academic Evaluation Centre. Applicants with an Indian, Chinese, and/or Vietnamese school or university degree must provide an APS Certificate to confirm that documents submitted are genuine, and that the academic achievements suffice to study at a German university.   • Application stage: Your application will be assessed by our Admissions Team. If your application is successful we will invite you to an interview. We aim to process all applications within 14 days.
  • Interview stage: Interviews will be conducted in person at the school. Interviews with international applicants can be conducted online. The interview consists of a formal meeting with either a member of the Admissions Team, Education Team, or both. At this interview, you will be expected to answer detailed questions surrounding your reasons for choosing to study with MetFilm School, alongside your understanding of the specialism you are applying for.
  • Offer stage: Once we have completed this process, we will let candidates know within 10 working days whether they have been offered a place on the course.
  • Acceptance stage: If you are offered a place and wish to accept, it is your responsibility to ensure you are prepared to make a deposit payment of 20% of the course fees to secure your place. Your offer of a place will only be guaranteed for three weeks once an offer is made.
