Why Study in Brighton?

Why Study in Brighton?

The city is home to a number of prosperous film and television production companies, including Warner Brothers International and Lambent Productions, making it the perfect place to start your journey into the industry.

Brighton likewise boasts a huge population of games developers and studios, including Studio Gobo, which contributed to Hogwarts Legacy, and Electric Square, which worked on Diablo 4 and Lords of the Fallen. The game engine giant Unity even has its European headquarters here.

Brighton’s diverse landscape has provided the perfect backdrop for gritty classics like Brighton Rock, as well as contemporary documentaries such as Nick Cave’s 20,000 Days on Earth, offering a variety of settings to inspire and shape your creative vision. The Duke of York’s Picturehouse, one of the UK’s longest-running cinemas, adds to Brighton’s cinematic legacy. Animators, too, will find abundant inspiration and opportunities in this diverse and imaginative city by the sea.

Gamers will enjoy the wide range of games shops, bars, cafes, and experiences in and around Brighton, including Anime & Comic Con and the Strange Games Festival. The city also hosts key events, such as the Develop:Brighton conference, the UK’s biggest annual conference for games professionals – the ideal place to network and build valuable industry connections.

Few locations can boast a cosmopolitan city lifestyle just a short walk from the beach. Of course, there’s more to Brighton than just sun and sea; annual music, arts, and cultural festivals – along with copious culinary events – make Brighton an incredibly exciting place to live and study.

Oh, and did we mention the outdoor cinema on the beach every summer?

If you’re scouting for filming or artistic inspiration, Brighton and its surrounding areas boast an array of stunning backdrops.

Brighton is famous for its pebble beach, which stretches from one side of the city to the other, but if you venture a little further afield, you’ll soon find yourself in some of England’s most beautiful countryside.

Easily accessible by public transport, bike, or car, the South Downs National Park boasts 1,600 square kilometres of picturesque natural beauty – a cinematographer’s dream. From the dramatic white cliffs of the Seven Sisters to the woodlands of the Western Weald, you’re spoiled for choice.

Brighton is incredibly cyclist-friendly, with bike lanes and storage throughout the city, and it is now part of the National Cycle Network. The official cycle route along the seafront is a popular choice, and city bikes can be rented through Beryl Bikes.

Brighton’s bus network is extensive, making travel within the city quick and easy. If you’re commuting from outside Brighton, simply get the train to Brighton station.

There are frequent trains to London Victoria and London Bridge, and Gatwick Airport is just a short journey away. Brighton has rail connections across the south east and even within the Brighton itself, with Hove, London Road, and Moulsecoomb areas of the city all having their own local train stations.
