This module allows you to explore the convergence of theory and practice in your chosen specialist area. Through research-based learning, you will develop an in-depth understanding of your chosen area of screen and film production and approach it using a critical and theoretical lens.
To support your learning, this module encompasses research training and one-to-one tuition/mentoring. The skills and experience that you’ll gain provide an excellent starting point for the Major Project.
In this module, you will begin to move into the developmental stage of the production process. You will identify and refine your specialist pathway whether as an editor, a director or a sound designer for example, and through a process of exploration and experimentation, you will discover how to wish to develop as a practitioner.
Throughout this module, you will work closely with tutors who will support you in developing an approach that will best showcase your ideas. This could be a pitch, concept showcase, audio piece, screenplay, or pilot, depending on your chosen specialism.
This module will allow you to dive into your specialist practice, and the research that you have already undertaken.
Through further practice-based research, you will and with the support of your tutors and mentor, you will develop the groundwork for realising these ideas in the Major Project module.
This module interrogates the collaborative practices intrinsic to screen and film production. By working alongside your peers, industry contacts and external stakeholders, you’ll develop key strategies for teamwork and develop your vision for an inclusive and ethically sound future for filmmaking communities.
Practical workshops, seminars and studio activities will support your creative thinking in a group dynamic. This will allow you to develop your project, as well as your critical understanding of collaboration in the film industry. You will be assessed via a portfolio that comprises your research, practical work and critical evaluation.
This module gives you the opportunity to produce an extended piece of work that explores your chosen specialist pathway. The research, practice and development that you have undertaken in prior modules will help you bring your ideas to life.
Throughout this module, you will be supervised by your expert tutors and industry mentors.
