MetFilm School Birmingham Facilities

Welcome to Rea Studios, the home of MetFilm School Birmingham, where our students kickstart their career in film.

As the very first specialist film school in Birmingham, Rea Studios, located off Floodgate Street in the heart of Digbeth, provides our students with professional-standard facilities in which to work and study.

The studios are shared with Performers College students, offering all students the opportunity to collaborate for their productions and build valuable networks that will last long into their careers.

Rea Studios is a purpose-built creative learning environment for the new generation of Birmingham filmmakers. As the first specialist film school in the city, Rea Studios provides our students with professional-standard facilities and an atmosphere of community, creativity and collaboration.

The Studios feature six fully-equipped edit suites with industry-standard software, including Avid, Adobe Suite, DaVinci Resolve and Logic Pro, as well as cutting-edge Apple Mac computers, large studio spaces and a Dolby Atmos screening room. With our open plan communal reception area, our students have everything they need to creatively flourish on the doorstep of the Custard Factory and the dynamic creative hub of Digbeth.

Rea Studios has been recently expanded with a brand-new adjoining space, which includes a second large film studio with an infinity cove and advanced lighting setup, new teaching rooms and more industry-standard facilities. In total, this new addition incorporates over 4000 square feet of new floor space, taking the total floor space to a whopping 13,000 square feet.

Directly opposite the BIMM Music Institute campus, Rea Studios joins a cluster of other colleges, providing an emerging creative community that will bolster the city’s status as a hub for creatives.

Film students have the chance to follow in the prestigious footsteps of director Steven Spielberg, who chose Digbeth as a location for his feature film Ready Player One, as did Steven Knight for the iconic Peaky Blinders.

The Custard Factory houses a multitude of small independent artistic businesses. With television production companies Optomen and North One also being based in the area, and the planned investment of Mercian Studios, we are positioned to give our students the very best access to the local industry.

Alongside the Custard Factory, students are also just a stone’s throw from other creative spaces, such as The Bond and Digbeth Loc Studios, catering to TV, film, and digital content production, attracting local and international talent to the area.
