Overview
The Young Filmmakers Academy is a two-week non-residential course for 14–17-year-olds. This is a fully immersive course for students who are passionate about film, television, and online media. This course is suitable for beginners, no previous experience is required.

The Young Filmmakers Academy course gives students the opportunity to get involved in a variety of exercises and roles in order to understand the core skills required for screen content creation.
The Young Filmmakers Academy is designed to improve the understanding, knowledge, and practice in the following core areas:
- Storytelling through film
- Using the camera to tell a story
- Editing using Adobe Premiere Pro
- On set collaboration
- The role of the director
- Working with actors

The following list is an overview of the topics and themes covered in the Young Filmmakers Academy. For more information, please download the course outline below.
Filmmaking Overview
Students will be equipped with a good understanding of filmmaking process, use of equipment and the fundamentals of covering a scene. Students will also learn about individual crewmembers and the importance of good preparation for a shoot.
Visual Storytelling
Students will cover the practicalities of transferring ideas onto screen and ensuring they are ready for a shoot. Students will learn how a director can prepare for a shoot using storyboards, script mark-ups and technical floor plans.
Editing
During the editing sessions, students will learn how to use Adobe Premiere Pro and capture rushes using the right settings.
Screenwriting
Designed to give students an understanding of screenwriting conventions and the essential elements that make up a story.
Directing Actors
Students will develop an understanding of the director-actor relationship and will be able to identify different performance styles.
Camera and Sound
Working with industry-standard equipment, provided through MetFilm School’s partnership with Procam Take 2, students will learn the basics of camera, lighting, and sound.

Entry Requirements for London
Minimum Age: Applicants must be under 18 years old for the entire duration of the course.
This course is open enrolment and there are no entry requirements.
In order to get the most out of the course, you should be able to both speak and write in English to a reasonable standard.
Please be aware that we have a limited number of places available for each course intake and operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
Duration and Location
- Duration: Two Weeks Full-Time, Monday – Friday, Non-residential.
- Location: MetFilm School Campus at Ealing Studios.
