Matt Wilkinson
BA Filmmaking
Matt is a Sound Recordist / 1st Assistant Sound, who graduated from MetFilm School Brighton in 2016.
Since graduating, Matt has worked as a Sound Recordist on all sorts of feature films, TV programs, commercials, shorts and corporate films and in the last twelve months alone he has worked on BBC’s Doctors, first as a Boom Operator and more recently as Production Sound Mixer. He also regularly booms on Coronation Street and Doctor Who.
What were the most valuable skills you gained at MetFilm School?
“I was already working as a sound engineer for live music and wanted to cross over to the film and TV industry. MetFilm School gave me the understanding of how a set and crew actually work.”
What advice would you offer current students at MetFilm School?
“You’ll only get out of it what you out in to it. Use the umbrella of being a student to fully immerse yourself in your subject. Brighton has a very successful and wide range of production companies and it’s a great place to network and gain experience on smaller productions.
Also, working in the film industry means long hours and hard work. So, the right kind of personality suited to working within a team is vital and more important than any technical proficiency.”
