Rosemary Chalmers

Rosemary Chalmers is an accomplished concept artist and anthrozoologist specialising in creature design, speculative biology, and SciArt. With extensive industry experience, her work as a creature designer has been featured in eco-educational board games and speculative biology zines. She has also exhibited alongside renowned artists such as Terryl Whitlatch and Iris Compiet. Rosemary’s creative research practice emphasises multi-species experiential storytelling, challenging anthropocentric narratives in video games and entertainment design.
In addition to her industry accomplishments, Rosemary is the inaugural Head of School for Games and Creative Technology at MetStudios, BIMM University Brighton. There, she is dedicated to expanding programmes that support students’ journeys into the immersive world of games. Previously, she created and led the BA (Hons) Comic & Concept Art programme at Leeds Arts University, successfully growing the course to over 300 students in six years while building a diverse team of academics.
Rosemary dual-wields MAs with Distinctions in Concept Art for Games & Animation from Teesside University and Anthrozoology from the University of Exeter. She also earned a BA (Hons) in Visual Communication (Illustration) with First Class Honours from Birmingham City University. As a Women in Games Ambassador and Videogames Ambassador, she actively advocates for diversity and inclusivity in the gaming industry.
A member of various industry organisations, including the Concept Art Association, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Rosemary has published work on topics such as animal representation in video games and eco-feminism. Her contributions to the field have been recognised through her involvement as a guest artist, mentor, and speaker at numerous international events across the UK, Germany, Denmark, Türkiye, the USA, and South Korea.
You’ll most likely find her drawing monsters, aliens, and goofy creatures or in nature speaking with animals, mostly birds.
