You want to learn how to write, direct, shoot or make films, but you’re not ready to commit to a 2 or 3 year degree. Maybe you’re already working, studying something else, or just figuring out if this is the path you want to go all in on. That’s exactly what our short courses are for.
Whether you’re dreaming of directing your own film, stepping in front of the camera, sharpening your editing skills, or finally turning that story idea into something real, our courses are designed to help you get creative fast, whatever your starting point.
From weekend tasters to multi week programmes, full time or part time, you’ll learn by doing with professional gear and guidance from tutors who are active in the industry. Build your skills, grow your confidence, and start creating work you’re proud of, all without putting your life on pause.
I explored different departments, learned more about the structure of storytelling and found myself taking an interest in directing, as well and finding my voice. It was one of the best experiences I’ve had the pleasure of being involved in, and I made many friendships with classmates with whom I have collaborated on projects since.
Why do a short course?
- They fit around your life: Our courses are part-time, full-time, weekend only, they are perfect for creatives balancing day jobs, study or other commitments
- You learn by doing: There are no lectures about film theory for six weeks before you pick up a camera, you’re hands-on and practical with real equipment and real feedback
- No experience required: Most people arrive to our short courses having never touched professional film equipment. These courses are designed for beginners, hobbyists, and working professionals looking to upskill
- They are a great test-drive: A short course will tell you whether you love the work before you start more education into film and screen. They are a fast, practical route into film and screen acting
Before enrolling on our twenty-week Certificate in Acting for Film, Barbara Brito didn’t have a huge amount of practical experience as an actor. But by the time she completed her course, she felt ‘ready to enter the industry’. And that’s exactly what she did, booking a lead role in Andrea M. Catinella’s horror feature, Island of the Dolls 2.
