At MetFilm School, we’re proud to champion every craft that brings stories to life – from directing and editing to sound and virtual production. Following the successful launch of our BA (Hons) Digital Film Practice degree last year, this future-focused course continues to inspire the next generation of digital storytellers ready to step confidently into the screen industries of tomorrow.
Designed for the digital era
The BA (Hons) Digital Film Practice is a three-year, full-time undergraduate degree that bridges creativity and technology. It’s designed for students who want to master the craft of filmmaking in the digital age – gaining the technical fluency, artistic confidence, and industry insight to succeed across film, television, and emerging screen platforms.
The course is uniquely structured. In the first year, students collaborate across creative disciplines to build core production and storytelling skills. From the second year onwards, the focus shifts to post-production as an integrated craft, where students develop a holistic understanding of how editing, sound, visual effects, and virtual production work together to shape powerful screen stories.
Through hands-on projects, industry-informed teaching, and access to professional facilities, students learn to navigate every stage of the digital post-production process – from initial edit to final delivery. They graduate with a deep appreciation of how technology and creativity combine in modern filmmaking, ready to contribute to the screen industries.
This approach reflects the changing needs of the UK screen sector, identified by ScreenSkills as a key area of growth, making the course both creatively exciting and highly employable.
Learn from industry professionals
Students are taught by a team of industry-active practitioners – filmmakers, editors, VFX artists, and sound designers who continue to work across film, TV, and digital content creation. Every workshop, project, and assessment is grounded in current professional practice, ensuring that students develop the skills and mindset needed for today’s production environments.
“What makes Digital Film Practice so exciting is its focus on innovation in post-production, from editing and sound to visual effects and virtual production. Our students are natural problem-solvers and storytellers who thrive in collaborative environments, and it is incredibly rewarding to see them develop the confidence and technical fluency to bring their creative ideas to life on screen.”
Collaboration at the core
Collaboration sits at the heart of every MetFilm School course, and our Digital Film Practice is no exception. Students work alongside peers from Screen Acting, Filmmaking, and Cinematography degrees – mirroring the teamwork of professional production sets.
From short narrative films to post-production projects and virtual studio shoots, every semester culminates in practical creative outcomes. By graduation, students leave with an impressive professional portfolio and a specialist showreel that reflects their chosen craft.
