In your first year, you will build foundational acting skills. You will explore vocal techniques and a variety of play texts, practitioners, and characterisation approaches, building storytelling techniques essential for theatrical performance. You will learn basic dramatic principles, including the rules of improvisation, physicality, body language, character development, and status.
The course modules will deepen your understanding of the creative arts and industry structures by examining pivotal cultural moments and contemporary cultural issues while equipping you with critical thinking and research skills.
In the second year, you will develop your foundational acting skills through specialised modules. You will gain practical key skills and techniques for contemporary performance and learn how to apply them to different camera setups, including the audition process.
Throughout the academic year, you will engage in collaborative projects and activities for personal and professional development. These will elevate your interpersonal and communication skills and guide you to creating a comprehensive portfolio for future career opportunities and the ‘Final Project’ module in the third year.
You will also explore relevant contemporary cultural issues and theoretical frameworks to understand how these relate to your own creative practice and professional values.
In the third and final year, you will consolidate the broad learning into your chosen project. The ‘Final Project’ module will allow you to critically evaluate your learning path, develop creative assets, determine your readiness for work in the creative industries, and ultimately create your own professional portfolio.
You will continue undertaking technical and artistic classes in acting, voice, and movement with the ‘Advanced Acting for Stage, Screen & Digital Media’ module, where you will work on a short film that will be screened at the Everyman Theatre.
In the ‘Final Theatre Production’ module, you will audition for your role in front of the artistic team responsible for the productions, following current industry practices. You will be expected to deliver a highly skilled, engaging, and sophisticated performance, demonstrating a clear ability to convey the story to the audience.
