YouTube Space Berlin at MetFilm School launches

By Jonny Persey

30 April 2015

I’m thrilled to share with you the news of an exciting new partnership between MetFilm School and YouTube, the world’s biggest online creator community. This partnership will see the opening of Europe’s second YouTube Space in our Berlin campus (the first having its home in London); opening up state-of-the-art studio facilities for MetFilm School students. This is also YouTube’s first partnership with a platform for creators in the Western Hemisphere.

At MetFilm we’re constantly adapting to the changing nature of the industry and that’s why this partnership is so important for us. Platforms such as YouTube will undoubtedly play a huge part in the future of filmmaking and distribution. Thanks to the world of online sharing platforms, content creators no longer need to ask for permission for their content to be broadcast and shared – they can reach their audiences directly. It is this ‘no permission needed’, democratic, proactive approach that truly captures the spirit of how we do things at MetFilm School, attracting those with a passion for filmmaking and a strong desire to succeed.

The Space has added to our portfolio a studio, mixing facilities, two standing sets and a grading theatre, but it’s not just through equipment and space that we will pass on the benefits of this partnership to our students. Students and staff will also benefit from the organic collaborations with other YouTube creators that will occur at the Space.

There are events that YouTube are planning to happen throughout the year, and more formal training we’ll introduce there over time which will be directly informed by YouTube’s best practice. So why are we doing this in Berlin? Well it’s without doubt one of the most creative cities in the world with an exceptionally rich filmmaking history, which is what made it our choice for our second Met Film School campus. And why YouTube?

Students can not only make films, but businesses off the back of such platforms. We want them to do that properly, and be equipped with the necessary skills for success in this new, and exciting arena. Who better to help us than the company who has helped to give the creative community this change? The YouTube Space Berlin @ MetFilm School represents an exciting next step in filmmaking and content creation and we’re thrilled to be involved in helping to give them this space.
