BA Filmmaking is coming to MetFilm School Leeds

We are excited to offer our BA (Hons) Filmmaking degree at MetFilm School Leeds for the first time in 2027.

Already established across our other campuses, our BA Filmmaking degree has helped aspiring filmmakers develop their creative voice, build practical production skills, and take their first steps into the screen industry.

Now, you can study filmmaking in Leeds, a city with a thriving creative community and an increasingly significant role in the UK’s film and television landscape. The new course complements our successful undergraduate portfolio at MetFilm School Leeds, joining BA (Hons) Content, Media and Film Production and BA (Hons) Acting for Screen.

Our BA (Hons) Filmmaking degree immerses you in every aspect of the filmmaking craft, combining creative storytelling with practical production experience.

You’ll learn by doing, developing your skills through hands-on filmmaking and building a professional portfolio throughout your degree. You’ll have the opportunity to build your production crew by collaborating with students from across our entire creative community.

Why study filmmaking in Leeds?

Leeds is a major creative centre with a growing screen sector and an increasingly important role in film and television production.

MetFilm School Leeds is based within Prime Studios, a state-of-the-art media production facility in the heart of the city. With recently updated facilities, you’ll study in a working production environment, surrounded by the activity of the professional screen industry.

The wider Yorkshire region also has a strong connection to film and television, with productions, broadcasters, studios, and creative organisations based across the region, such as Channel 4 and ITV, and studios like The Leeds Studios, and the new Versa Studios. Our Leeds graduates are already making their mark

MetFilm School Leeds opened its doors just four years ago, but our students and graduates are already contributing to productions across the screen industries.

Leeds talent has worked on productions including The Choral, Hollyoaks and Dragons’ Den, as well as commercial and in-house productions for companies such as Porsche and Vogue.

Paul Gormley, Head of School at MetFilm School Leeds, says:

And those successes are continuing, with MetFilm School Leeds talent working across new productions in front of and behind the camera.

MetFilm School talent on Hamburg Days

One recent example is Hamburg Days, a new BBC drama currently in production exploring The Beatles’ formative years during their early 1960s rise within Hamburg’s club scene.

The six-part drama features MetFilm School talent across its cast and crew, including MetFilm School Leeds graduate Patrick Gilmore. Patrick studied BA (Hons) Acting for Screen and plays Pete Best in the series.

Reflecting on his time at MetFilm School Leeds, he said:

“MetFilm School was the beginning of my screen acting journey, and I quickly developed a huge passion for both the degree and everything it had to offer. Over the course of my three years studying there, I was lucky to have incredible tutors who consistently supported and inspired me, showing me what could be possible.

They also organised networking events and encouraged us to attend local film festivals, which massively helped me understand how to create my own brand and promote the work I’d made as an unknown artist.”

Patrick’s experience is one example of the growing network of MetFilm School talent working across the screen industries.

Leeds talent on screen

Indigo Kamal Poole, another BA (Hons) Acting for Screen graduate, plays newcomer Xander on Hollyoaks.

Indigo was also part of the team behind Green Jumper, which was nominated in the Postgraduate Drama category at the Royal Television Society Student Television Awards, alongside fellow MetFilm School Leeds students and graduates Maisie Edwards and Harvey Anderson.
