Overview

The BA (Hons) Filmmaking Top-Up course is a one-year programme designed for students who have already completed a foundation degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in a relevant field. The course aims to deepen students’ understanding of filmmaking, enhance their technical skills, and prepare them for a professional career in the film industry. The program offers a blend of practical and theoretical learning, with a focus on developing students’ individual voice as filmmakers.

This course is offered through our partnership with BIMM University. UK students on this course may be eligible for the maximum Tuition Fee Loan amount, which covers the full tuition fee. Please check the Fees & Finance section for more information.

The BA (Hons) Filmmaking Top-Up course at Screen and Film School is a one-year programme designed for students advancing from a foundation degree or HND.

It focuses on enhancing practical filmmaking skills, with core studies in pre-production, production, and a significant research project. Students also choose from various specialised modules to tailor their experience, including cinematography, post-production editing and grading, sound recording, production design, visual effects, and film business strategies.

These modules aim to prepare students for professional roles in the film industry, equipping them with expert-level knowledge and skills.

We include a diverse range of teaching methods which include:

  • Productions
  • Seminar-style Group Teaching

  • Practical Group Work
  • Formative Feedback through Critiques, Pitches, Screenings, and Reflective Sessions
  • Work-integrated Learning
  • Authentic Assessment

We use a wide range of assessment which include portfolios, performances, research, presentations, and reflective work.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

  • Completion of Level 5 Qualification: Higher National Diploma, FdA, FdSC or equivalent in a similar subject.
  • UCAS Tariff: 64 points
  • A-Level: CC
  • Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma: MPP
  • GCSE: Three GCSEs at a minimum grade C/4, including English Language or Level 2 Equivalents
  • IELTS: 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 to be achieved in each band
