At MetFilm School, employability isn’t something we leave until the end of your course. It’s built into the experience from day one. A big part of that is Creative Futures, MetFilm School’s dedicated careers advice team, available to every student and graduate.
Creative Futures is designed to guide, support, and challenge you as you shape your career in the screen industries. Whether you already have a clear direction or are still exploring your options, the team is there to help you build confidence, develop your skills, and make informed decisions about your next steps.
We spoke to Judith Suckling, Head of Careers: Film – Creative Futures, about how Creative Futures helps support and prepare students for careers in the screen industries:
“The Creative Futures team’s key objective is to build our students’ confidence and develop the skills they need to take their next steps into screen industry careers. We support students from the moment they arrive on campus and throughout their journey with us.
Each campus has a dedicated Careers Manager who is an industry expert within their regional screen sector. Upon graduation, students are seamlessly supported by our Alumni team, who continue to provide tailored guidance for a further 18 months.”
This support is delivered through a range of practical services, workshops, and industry opportunities, outlined below.
Personalised career support
One of the most valuable aspects of Creative Futures is its one-to-one career surgeries. These sessions give students the chance to sit down with an experienced advisor and discuss their goals in depth. Whether refining a CV, preparing applications, or shaping a job search strategy, the advice is tailored to each individual, helping them move forward with clarity and purpose.
Workshops that open doors
Alongside individual support, Creative Futures runs career development workshops throughout the year. These group sessions explore the many different paths available across the creative industries.
They are designed to broaden understanding of where students’ skills could take them, while also offering practical guidance on navigating different routes. It’s an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and hear perspectives they may not have considered before.
Guidance on festivals and distribution
Getting work seen is a crucial step in building a career. Creative Futures offers festival and platform guidance, helping students understand how to approach the festival circuit and online distribution strategically. The focus is on making informed, strategic choices to maximise opportunities for their films and content without unnecessary costs.
Learning from industry voices
Students are regularly invited to masterclasses with leading figures across the screen industries. These sessions offer insight into creative practice, industry trends, and the challenges shaping the sector today.
Previous guest speakers have included acclaimed figures such as Hamnet director Chloé Zhao, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, writer and performer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, award-winning actor Bryan Cranston, and filmmaker and writer Emerald Fennell, among many others.

Industry opportunities
Creative Futures actively connects students and graduates with opportunities through its talent pool and jobs board. This includes a mix of full-time roles, freelance work, internships, and placements.
Fiona Adams, Co-Head of Careers at Creative Futures, explains: “Creative Futures provides key access to industry for our students. Everything we do focuses on bringing industry into the film school, giving our students an understanding of how the industry works and offering a variety of opportunities and placements that enable essential industry experience and career success. Our dedicated graduate manager sources job opportunities and connects graduates to a wide range of industry networks for their future progression.”
Many of these opportunities are shared exclusively with MetFilm students, alongside a carefully selected range from across the wider industry, offering a practical bridge between studying and working in the field. This includes ongoing collaboration with major productions such as ITV’s Grace, one of the channel’s most popular and critically acclaimed dramas. We’re proud to celebrate the many students and graduates who have contributed to the series over its run, reflecting the pathways Creative Futures helps open up across the industry.
Creative Futures Days
Creative Futures Days bring industry professionals directly into the School’s creative spaces, offering talks, discussions, and networking opportunities. Each event is shaped by students’ ambitions, ensuring the content feels relevant and useful.

Work experience
MetFilm School offers a work experience programme for second-year and MA students, connecting them with a wide range of companies for work placements. These include Whisper TV, Sheffield DocFest, Fable Productions, BFI Short Films, as well as opportunities across several music video productions.
Work experience is a key part of preparing students for industry, giving them direct insight into professional environments and adding to their portfolios.
Supporting you beyond graduation
Creative Futures doesn’t stop when a course ends. As a graduate, students continue to have access to support, advice, and opportunities, helping them stay connected and progress in their careers.
Creative Futures is more than a careers service. It provides ongoing support that helps students understand the industry, develop their professional identity, and progress into screen careers.
