Clearing 2025: A Level Results Day with MetFilm School and MetStudios

12 August 2025
You’ve been working hard for two years, and now results day is just around the corner.
By mid-morning on Thursday 14 August, you’ll know your A Level results and whether you have those all-important grades you need for your planned next steps.
Many universities make offers based on predicted grades, but even if you don’t achieve them, you can still secure a place. In fact, around 74,000 students gained university places through Clearing last year.
It’s not too late to apply for one of the many creative, career-focused undergraduate courses starting this year at MetFilm School or MetStudios. You can use our Clearing hotlines and friendly, helpful Admissions Teams to help guide you every step of the way.
Here’s our top 5 tips for what to do if your A-Level results aren’t quite what you expected.
Do your research
It’s a good idea to prepare a Plan B before Results Day. Take some time to research similar courses that may have lower entry requirements. For example, if you’ve applied for Media Studies, consider related options like Content, Media, and Film Production.
In some cases, compare the entry requirements for a BA versus a BSc. If you’re set on a particular university, check their Clearing pages now and register in advance to save time in case you need to contact them on Results Day, Thursday 14 August.
Stay calm
It’s the moment you’ve been working towards, and suddenly the screen or that piece of paper seems to say your dreams are out of reach. But remember — this is just a bump in the road. Take a few deep breaths, gather your thoughts, and know that there is always another option, always a different path to take.
Talk
There’s plenty of support available. Your initial reaction might be to withdraw or avoid talking to friends and family, but don’t forget – there are experienced staff at your school or college who can help you. They want the best for you, and most universities have a smooth, well-organised Clearing process designed to support you through this stage.
Be brave
Pick up the phone and call the universities you are interested in. Ask lots of questions and don’t just take the first opportunity that comes along. Make sure it’s the right one for you.
Write down the questions you want to ask before you call, and if it’s a university you haven’t visited, you may want to find out about facilities, accommodation, and student support. This is your opportunity to discover what is best for you. Don’t hang up the phone until all your questions are answered.
Keep an open mind
If you’re unsure what to do next, it’s okay to give yourself some time to consider all your options. You could choose to defer going to university until next year – 12 months could give you time to decide what you really want to do. You could use the time to earn some money, gain work experience, resit exams, or consider a different course or apprenticeship.
When A-Level Results Day rolls around, it can feel like everything moves quickly. But university is a big decision, and finding your perfect course isn’t something you should speed through.
