With Results Day just around the corner, it’s natural to be feeling a mix of excitement and nerves.
By mid-morning on Thursday 14 August, you’ll know your A Level results and be thinking about your next steps.
Whatever your results may be, it’s worth remembering that you have options. If your plans change on the day, there’s still time to explore available university places through Clearing. If you’re considering studying at MetFilm School, our friendly Admissions Team will be on hand to answer your questions, talk through your options, and support you throughout the process.
Here are our top tips to help you feel prepared for Results Day.
Do your research
Preparing ahead of Results Day can help you feel more confident, whatever happens. Take some time to understand your options and what support is available if your plans change.
If you don’t get the results you were hoping for, it could be worth exploring Clearing and the courses still available. Research entry requirements, look at alternative courses and find out which universities may have places that could be right for you.
If you’re interested in a creative career, take a look at our undergraduate degrees before Results Day so you’re familiar with the courses available and can make an informed decision about your next steps.
Stay calm
Results Day can feel like a lot to take in, whatever grades you receive. Give yourself time to process your results before making any decisions.
Remember that there are lots of different routes into higher education, and many students adjust their plans on Results Day. Taking a moment to gather your thoughts can help you make a decision that feels right for you.
Talk through your options
If your results aren’t quite what you expected, don’t feel like you have to figure everything out on your own.
Speak to your teachers, family, or friends, and talk through your options. University Admissions Teams are also there to answer your questions, explain what’s available through Clearing, and help you understand your next steps. Whichever university you choose, there will be people ready to support you through the process.
Take action
Once you’ve narrowed down your options, get in touch with the universities you’re interested in.
Write down any questions you’d like to ask before you call or email. You might want to find out more about the course, campus life, facilities, accommodation, or student support. This is your opportunity to make sure the course is the right fit for you, so don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as you need.
Keep an open mind
Results Day can move quickly, but choosing a university is a big decision, and it’s worth taking the time to consider your options carefully.
If your plans have changed, remember that Clearing is just one of several options available. You might decide to apply for a different course, defer your university place until next year, gain work experience, resit exams, or explore an apprenticeship. There isn’t one right path, and taking the time to choose the option that feels right for you is always worthwhile.
