The 12-Week Part-Time Foundation in Producing is an evening course designed for people who want a practical introduction to what producers do and how projects move from idea to screen. You will learn how to develop material, schedule and budget, navigate film finance, work with directors and writers, and create the documents producers need to take a project to market.

This course provides an industry-grounded introduction to producing across film, television and online content. It is suitable for beginners and early-stage creatives looking to understand how producers lead projects from concept to distribution.

What you will study

What you will study

Students explore the following key areas of study during the 12-Week Part-Time Foundation in Producing Course: 

Students will learn the role of the Producer, the key relationships, and collaborations to include working with Commissioners, Directors, and Financiers. 

Students will learn the production cycle, understand how the hierarchy of production works and the roles and responsibilities of the entire production team from line producer to production coordinator. 

Students will learn how finance and distribution work in the industry. Students will study some of the key players in film finance, understand the difference between development funding and production funding, the role of television and SVOD finance, distribution strategies and pre-sales. Students will look at crowdfunding as a tool for both financing and engaging with your audience and understand what is meant by ‘packaging’.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

Minimum Age: 18 at the start of the course.

This course is open enrolment and there are no entry requirements.

In order to get the most out of the course, you should be able to both speak and write in English to a reasonable standard.

Please be aware that we have a limited number of places available for each course intake and operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Duration: 12 weeks, Part-Time, Tuesdays 7-10pm.
  • Location: MetFilm School Campus at Ealing Studios.
