The film and media industry is full of exciting opportunities for creative storytellers, content creators and production professionals.
Whether you dream of making films, producing digital content, working behind the camera or developing campaigns for global brands, there are more ways than ever to build a career in the screen and media industries.
Our BA (Hons) Content, Media and Film Production degree, delivered in London, Leeds, and Birmingham, gives you the practical skills, creative confidence and industry insight to explore a range of career paths across film, television, digital media and beyond.
Here are seven career paths this practical, industry-focused degree could lead you towards.
Production and post-production
Production designer
Production designers help shape the visual identity of a film or television project, working across set design, props, colour palettes and the overall on-screen aesthetic to bring stories to life.
Across the course, there is a strong emphasis on art department skills, supported by additional masterclasses delivered over the summer, reflecting the number of students actively pursuing careers in art department roles. One current Level 6 student recently worked in the art department on the BAFTA-nominated Rocket Fuel and has since secured a placement on Waterloo Road.
Sound designer
Sound designers build the audio world of a production, combining dialogue, Foley, sound effects, ambience and music to create atmosphere and emotional impact. Strong sound design is essential across film, television and digital media, and there is increasing demand for these skills across the industry.
We embed Foley and sound design across modules, giving you practical experience in audio storytelling and post-production workflows. You will also gain additional work experience on indie shorts and external productions due to the growing industry demand for sound specialists.
Assistant director
Assistant directors help keep productions running smoothly by managing schedules, coordinating cast and crew, and supporting the director throughout filming. The role is vital across both narrative and factual production.
You’ll develop production management and on-set collaboration skills throughout the course, preparing you for fast-paced production environments. One recent graduate now works as a production assistant/AD on unscripted shows including Stacey Solomon’s Sort Your Life Out and Dickinson’s Real Deal.

Technical roles
Director of photography
Directors of Photography (DoPs) lead the camera and lighting departments, helping define the visual style of a production through cinematography, lighting and camera movement.
You will explore narrative, factual and commercial cinematography across both studio and location work. One graduate of the course now works as an in-house cinematographer creating content for clients including Vogue and Porsche.
Gaffer
Gaffers work closely with the director of photography to create and control lighting on set, helping achieve the overall visual look of a production.
Students have already gained hands-on experience working as lighting technicians on BFI productions while still studying, thanks to MetFilm School’s partnership with the British Film Institute (BFI). The collaboration gives you access to exclusive monthly guest speaker events across all campuses, connecting you directly with leading professionals from across the screen industries.

Commercial and content roles
Branded content producer
Branded content producers create engaging commercial content that connects brands with audiences across digital platforms, film and social media.
On the BA (Hons) Content, Media and Film Production degree, you’ll explore brand storytelling, interactive media and marketing strategy alongside narrative and factual filmmaking. You’ll experiment with short fiction, social impact content and branded entertainment formats before completing a final major project that reflects your own creative direction.
Podcast producer
Podcast producers oversee the creative and technical development of audio content, shaping formats, managing production workflows and guiding episodes from concept through to release.
Podcasting is a growing area for students interested in audio storytelling and factual production, with opportunities to develop your skills in interviewing, sound editing and audience-focused content creation.
