MetFilm School Berlin Students and Graduates Shine at DOK Leipzig

Students and graduates from MetFilm School Berlin’s MA Documentary & Factual programme recently attended DOK Leipzig, one of Europe’s leading festivals for documentary and animated film. Established in 1955, the festival is celebrated for its commitment to bold, innovative storytelling and its support of emerging creatives – making it an ideal environment for our aspiring filmmakers to learn, connect, and be inspired.

Postgraduate Course Leader Silke Ewald was joined by lecturer Jide Tom Akinleminu, along with current students and graduates including Carmina Orozco López, Amrutha Anilkumar, Francisca Sanches, Daria Altukhova, and Ilana Diamant.

The festival proved invaluable for the group, offering a unique opportunity to engage with filmmakers, producers, funders, and festival programmers. A highlight of the visit was Silke’s meeting with Julia Weigl, Director of Filmfest München and Chairwoman of AG Filmfestival, who extended an invitation for our students to take part in the upcoming Festival of Future Storytellers in Munich later this month.

MetFilm School Berlin was also represented behind the scenes. Graduate Carmina Orozco López is now part of the DOK Leipzig industry team, while other alumni continue to collaborate on projects that began during their studies with us.

For our current MA students, the experience served as an inspiring introduction to the professional documentary world – complete with screenings, industry pitches, and panel discussions that will directly influence their coursework and creative development in the months ahead.
