MetFilm School: A Journey of Growth and Innovation
By MetFilm School

MetFilm School has undergone remarkable growth and transformation since it opened its doors in 2003, welcoming its very first short course students on the Story to Screen in Eight Weeks course in Clapham, London. By 2005 it had moved into its current London campus at the iconic Ealing Studios, and by 2006, it launched MetFilm Production – now an award-winning production company.
The very first fully accredited degree (by UWL), the BA Practical Filmmaking (2-year) course launched in 2009 with 119 students, followed by the opening of the school’s second campus in Berlin in 2012. The School continued to grow from strength to strength, over the next 10 years, its success culminating in the launch of its third campus MetFilm School Leeds in 2022, by which time MetFilm School offered six BA and eight MA degrees as well as short courses ranging from 6 months to weekends, across the key screen disciplines.
In February 2024, MetFilm School was acquired by BIMM Group, and became part of BIMM University, the UK’s leading private university for the creative industries, which for 40 years, has equipped students with the knowledge and skills they need to meet the demands of the creative industries – and graduate feeling industry-ready.

BIMM University is one of the UK’s leading creative arts institutions, offering degrees in music, performing arts, film, and creative technology. With over 8,000 students across nine campuses in the UK, Ireland, and Germany, it combines academic rigour with industry-focused training to prepare students for successful creative careers.
MetFilm School merged with Screen and Film School and expanded its offering of practical hands-on degrees further across the UK, to campuses in Brighton, Birmingham and Manchester, further establishing itself as a leader in film and media education across the UK and Europe.
In September 2024, MetStudios, a specialist school for games, animation and VFX, launched in London, Berlin and Brighton.
The merger marked a significant milestone in the commitment of both institutions to providing high-quality specialist film school education, recognising the increasing importance of specialised education in the film sector. According to the BFI Skills Report 2022, the UK remains the second-biggest global market for film and high-end prestige TV productions. However, the film industry is expected to grow at 7% over the next two years, with an estimated skills gap building to 21k positions within the industry before 2025.
MetFilm School is committed to battling and bridging this skills gap, ensuring that all students receive comprehensive training in both traditional and cutting-edge aspects of filmmaking, building a more progressive and diverse workforce across the UK and worldwide.
2025 marks a significant year in the history of MetFilm School – with the completion of a major 2-year development project at its London campus with the opening of the new Ealing Studios building, as well as revised portfolio of BA courses across its campuses in the UK and Berlin for 2026 entry.
Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing more information and success stories from our BA courses, showcasing the incredible journeys of our students and graduates.
