We’re pleased to announce that Jack Perrons, MetFilm School Leeds BA Acting for Screen graduate, has landed a role in Alan Bennett’s new film, The Choral. The film, directed by Nicholas Hytner and starring Ralph Fiennes, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September and will have its UK premiere at the London Film Festival on 12 October, with a UK cinema release scheduled for 7 November 2025.
Jack appears as a soldier in the World War I story – a major achievement for this young actor who joined the very first cohort of our BA Acting for Screen course when our Leeds campus opened its doors in September 2022.
“Even though the course is called Acting for Screen, they push you to try everything,” Jack shared. “You learn about directing, camera, editing… that helps you understand the whole process and makes you a better actor.”
From the moment he arrived at Leeds, Jack immersed himself in student projects, professional sets, and opportunities to collaborate with filmmakers across the School. His first job was on Virdee, a crime drama filmed in Bradford. “That was my first taste of a real TV set,” he said. “It was so useful just to see how everything works.”
Soon after, he landed his first feature film role in Giant, based on the life of Sheffield boxing champion Prince Naseem Hamed. Jack played a bouncer and spent time on set at Leeds First Direct Arena, alongside hundreds of extras – and Hollywood star Pierce Brosnan. “That one’s still my favourite so far,” he said. “Pierce Brosnan went around shaking everyone’s hand – just the nicest guy. Experiences like that showed me I could actually make a living from this.”
These stepping stones prepared him for The Choral, filmed at Keighley Station near Leeds, where Jack experienced a large-scale shoot complete with 1940s set design, steam trains, and a crew of more than 150 professionals.
Jack grew up in Sutton-in-Ashfield and discovered his love for performance in school drama lessons, later joining MetFilm School Leeds to train professionally. He describes the facilities as “everything I hoped for and more – proper studios, green screens, lighting rigs.”
Luch Francis, Course Leader for BA Acting for Screen, has seen Jack’s journey firsthand:
“Jack has been an integral part of our growing campus since day one, collaborating with huge enthusiasm and commitment to his craft. It’s his work ethic and sense of curiosity that will ensure he continues to progress, and we are pleased to see him in his first big-screen feature alongside his fellow student, Ollie. This is what our school aims to achieve with every student, and we’re so excited to see what Jack does next.”
Now a graduate, Jack is focused on building his professional career, with ambitions that reach all the way to Hollywood. “The absolute dream would be to be in a Marvel film,” he said. “You’ve got to aim high!”
