Statement on the Overturn of Roe v Wade

On Friday, 24 June, the US Supreme Court ended constitutional protections for abortion, overturning the landmark Roe v Wade decision which ensured protections for people to make private, informed choices about their health care. The vast majority of states will now ban abortions, stripping around 30 million people of their right to have autonomy over their bodies and endangering lives across the country. This could also pave the way for other fundamental rights to be removed.

MetFilm School strongly condemns this as an unethical decision and an attack on human rights and we hereby affirm our commitment to our core mission and values of equality and freedom of expression. We strongly support individuals to access evidence-based health care services and remain proudly pro-choice.

We understand there are MetFilm School students and staff who may be directly affected by these events, and we offer our support and solidarity.

To speak to someone confidentially please do get in touch with our Student Support team on: wellbeing@metfilmschool.ac.uk or to book a session with one of our school counsellors on: counselling@metfilmschool.ac.uk.

As always, we must use the power of our collective voice to bring about positive change in our society and we stand by many of our community already engaged in protests and charitable endeavours to support reproductive health.
