The MetFilm School Community
As lockdown moved into April, we gave our isolated students a helping hand in their studies by launching the ‘Virtual Grindhouse’ – our new online community.
MetFilm School Director Jonny Persey said: “One of the most important features of university life is a sense of community, which could too easily be lost during these times of social distancing and self-isolation. So, we launched an online community, named after the café at our London campus, The Grindhouse.
We then kept students engaged between their online lectures with filming competitions, opportunities curated from across industry and, with a little help from established industry names, a series of Virtual Masterclasses, launching in mid-April with writer Sally Wainwright. The Masterclasses have continued regularly ever since with among others: director and stars of Normal People, Lenny Abrahamson, Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones; actor Jonathan Pryce; writer/director Kate Herron and award-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins.
All MetFilm School tutors are working in or come from the screen industries with a diverse range of festival appearances, awards and nominations, including BAFTA, Emmys and Oscars. This means you’ll be taught by and interact with people who know the film and TV world, inside out.
MetFilm School also have a unique partnership with facilities giants Procam and Take 2 – who are the exclusive external camera kit suppliers for all MetFilm School London courses.
The original Ealing Studios ‘White House’ entrance, and Mad Dog 2020 Casting.
We concentrate on employability right from the start and our students have access from their very first day of their studies, to our dedicated careers service, MetFilm Futures, who provide support through masterclasses, career surgeries, festival accreditation, finding job opportunities and more.
Our in-house production company, MetFilm Production, makes high-quality fiction and documentary films, and offers four graduate internships a year, lasting three months. To date, they have employed more than 85 MetFilm School students and alumni on their films!
We also have our very own Awards – the annual Smart Screen Creative Awards; an industry celebration of the ingenuity, passion and talent of our graduates and students judged by industry experts including Armando Iannucci, Sarah Gavron and Noel Clarke.
From this Autumn, we will re-open both campuses fully, and we are committed to offering all current and new students the full learning experience that you signed up to, physically on site.
