MetFilm School partners with British Urban Film Festival 2019
MetFilm School is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with the British Urban Film Festival.
The British Urban Film Festival (BUFF) was formed in July 2005 to showcase urban independent cinema in the absence of any such state-sponsored activity in the UK. Supported by filmmakers and British actors, the organisation was set up by Emmanuel Anyiam-Osigwe and established as BUFF Enterprises Ltd.
As part of the agreement this year, the School will host 3 days of film and scriptwriting workshop labs plus the annual Live BUFF Script Readings which has previously been staged at Channel 4 and the BT Tower.
In 2018, MetFilm School alumni made a significant contribution to BUFF’s first feature film, No Shade, taking on five students who worked on set and also at the film festival.
Jesse Quinones, MetFilm School Tutor and Production Module Leader on the BA Content, Media & Film Production, co-produced No Shade, also has a long-standing relationship with the festival having screened his first feature Calloused Hands in Leicester Square at BUFF 2013. Quinones also won Best Film and Best Director at the inaugural BUFF awards in 2015.
Jonny Persey, Director, MetFilm School said:
“We are delighted to be partnering with the British Urban Film Festival. BUFF’s commitment to working with and supporting emerging filmmakers echoes our own ethos of developing and nurturing a new generation of creative screen professionals and entrepreneurs.
“We are proud to be working alongside an organization that is championing independent urban cinema and which is cutting through the artificial boundaries that exist in society and which so often get in the way of such brilliant cultural endeavours and their intended audiences. Within this context, we are pleased to share our expertise in content creation and film production with BUFF, its supporters and guests”.
The labs – taking place from 2-4 September 2019 – include:
- ‘How to shoot a feature film using a mobile phone’ with MetFilmSchool Tutor and Smartphone Filmmaking Tutor on the BA Content, Media & Film Production– Cassius Rayner.
- ‘How to budget and produce a feature film’ with Shantelle Rochester.
- ‘Scriptwriting: completing your first feature film script’ Clare Anyiam-Osigwe.
The BUFF Live Script Readings take place on Thursday 5 September. The three winning scripts (to be performed as 20-minute pieces) are Loyalty – written by Jo Southwell, Raped – written by Malcolm Solomon and Asylum by Eno Enefiok.
