Introducing MA Film & Television Production – Launching March 2019.

As we unveil our latest postgraduate offering, we chat to Steve Pinhay, MetFilm School Deputy Director and Postgraduate Course leader, about why a course like this is more important than ever for today’s multi-faceted and ever-evolving screen industries.

What will our new MA entail and what will students study?

MA Film & Television Production will be a highly practical, contemporary and industry-focused MA that will see students collaborating to create short-form films and videos, a web TV series, an online advertisement or branded content video, alongside a Master’s Project that supports their personal career ambitions.

Students will learn about the individual roles and skills that attract them – screenwriting, producing, directing, camera and editing – and the processes that lie at the heart of screen content production – film and television – in the age of video on demand.

Like on our current MA courses, students will learn the importance of collaboration and will work both individually and within teams throughout the course.

What makes this course relevant to the industry today?

Today’s screen industries are evolving at a relentless pace. Film and television production is being revolutionised by online giants like Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Video as well as by new working methods and a new breed of screen creatives – smart, adaptable, aware and multi-skilled.

This course is designed for that new generation. The course will be supported by numerous creatives and entrepreneurs from the screen industries and will enable students to prepare themselves for careers in new, as well as traditional, screen industries.

How will MA Film & Television Production fit into the direction of the school?

Its field of reference is contemporary and its ambitions fit well with our ethos which encourages students to consider Audiences (physical and online), Impact (changing the world), Innovation, Diversity (in front of the camera and behind the scenes), Entrepreneurship (finding and exploiting opportunities) and Creative Excellence.
