Win Tickets to the BFI London Film Festival Gala Screening of Trumbo starring Bryan Cranston!
Here at Met we are getting seriously excited about the fast-approaching opening of this year’s BFI London Film Festival! As always, the programme is brimming with an array of star-studded heavyweights, thought provoking specialties and hidden curiosities, all destined to get film fans talking.
To celebrate the occasion we’ve bagged two tickets to the Leicester Square Headline Gala of Trumbo on Thursday 8th October, and these will go to one lucky winner! This sold-out screening will be the film’s UK Premiere, with stars Bryan Cranston and Helen Mirren rumoured to be in red-carpet attendance.
What is Trumbo?
Good Question! The beauty of major film festivals is that they are a hotbed for advanced film screenings, so we don’t blame you for not being up on this exciting release.
Trumbo is an American biopic about the prestigious 1940s Screenwriter Dalton Trumbo who was blacklisted for his Communist ideologies, and subsequently forced in to penning some of his most celebrated works under pseudonym. The story of the ostracized figure – and The Hollywood Ten – is certainly fascinating, and considering the Academy Awards’ fondness for self-reflective releases about Hollywood’s golden era (albeit not always black marks such as this), Trumbo has the potential to be one of the more interesting hats thrown into the award season ring.
Why get excited?
Everyone’s favourite small screen anti-hero Bryan ‘Walter White’ Cranston will be fulfilling the title role and we are particularly intrigued to see him take on the task of leading a feature film. Cranston has been doing some great work in Hollywood over recent years (Drive, Argo), but the majority of it has been in a supporting capacity. The much-loved actor has been radiating sky-high confidence of late and his cultural cachet certainly warrants a rise to the major leagues. Hollywood – ironically –awaits with open arms.
However, by no means should the film be considered a one-man show. Trumbo features a diverse supporting cast including Diane Lane, Helen Mirren, Louis C.K, Elle Fanning and John Goodman. What’s more, one of the most curious things about the film is seeing Jay Roach at the helm, a Director synonymous with his comedic productions such as Meet the Parents and the Austin Powers trilogy. We are hoping that humour is supplied wittily, and that the film is every bit as seductive and charming as the trailer suggests.
