By Cassio | Categorised in Industry Interviews

Our Meet the Tutor series is designed to give you an insight into our tutors and their experience at the Met Film School.

Meet Rachel Wood, Head of Screenwriting at the Met Film School.
What/Which courses do you teach at the Met Film School?
I am Head of Screenwriting on the BA (Hons) Practical Filmamking course,One-Year Courses and several Short and Part-Time courses

What is one thing about your field of expertise or filmmaking in general that excites you?

I adore films and particularly reading scripts!  The art of creating a story and a character is fascinating and I love nothing more than being drawn into a character’s life in a movie.  Working with writers on their screenplays is a rewarding and constantly evolving process.

Do you have any links to your past/current projects (youtube link, url)?

I have been involved in lots of films in both development and production.  Films I have worked on include ‘Edge of Darkness’, ‘Last Orders’, ‘Stoned’, ‘Little Voice’.

How would you describe your time teaching at the School? What do you think is the most challenging element of the course you teach?

I really enjoy teaching screenwriting at the school.  It is very stimulating having lots of different students  from varying backgrounds.  It is a challenge for me to keep things fresh and to constantly invigorate the students.  Some students have pre conceived ideas about screenwriting and think it’s not for them or they think that they can’t write; it’s great to see them creating fully developed stories from tiny seeds and doing a great job.

What are the key attributes you look for in a student?

Enthusiasm, interest in watching movies and reading scripts, engagement in the learning process and to remember it’s about the story!

Any useful tips for aspiring filmmaker?

Work hard and prepare to learn from everyone you come into contact with. Determination, persistence and of course great stories!
