Meet the Alumni – Aashni Shah

By Cassio | Categorised in Alumni Interviews

We’re introducing a new section ‘Meet the Alumni’ which is designed to give you an insight into what our recent graduates are up to and their experience at the Met Film School.

We’re debuting with Aashni Shah who studied One-Year Practical Filmmaking.
Why did you choose your course at the Met Film School?

3 years ago I was an Editor by profession in Mumbai, India. I came to London only because I wanted to explore what living by myself really was. I had no intentions of enrolling in a film school whatsoever. I just wanted to be by myself in an unknown place and have fun. I continued working part-time at a post-production studio where I met a friend who was from MFS. She told me an awful lot about the film school and how it taught her to think in a 100 different ways. Movies have always been my passion. The fact that MFS was actually located in the Ealing Studios also excited me.

How would you describe your time at the School?

I had never thought of becoming a Director to be honest. I came into MFS, met a lot of inspiring students and the faculty were extremely experienced and encouraging. I don’t know how to put in words my time at the MFS. It gave me the fire to achieve something. It gave me the push that I needed. All I can say is that I am what I am today because of MFS. It was one of the best decisions of my life.

What was the highlight of the course?

I absolutely loved the screenwriting and the lighting exercises. We had extremely professional tutors who taught us above and beyond just the words ‘lighting’ and ‘screenwriting’.
