Meet the Alumni – Anne Akande
Our Meet the Alumni series is designed to give you an insight into what our recent graduates are up to and their experience at the Met Film School.
|This week we meet Anne Akande who studied One-Year Visual Effects & Animation.|
After completing my masters in 2007 at the University of Bristol, i realised that I didn’t have enough ‘hands-on’ skills to get a job in the industry. It was a more technical/research degree and I needed practical experience. I went away from animation and the industry for about a year and a half before coming back to my senses and finding the hunger again. I was looking for a course that would make me relevant in more than one sector. When I found the One Year Film, VFX and Animation course at the Met Film School, I knew that this was what I had been waiting for. And I was so right :-)
How would you describe your time at the School?
The best thing that happened to me in 2009 for sure. My former classmates and my friends will testify to this. I’d come in early because I couldn’t wait to get going. I met some wonderful people and learnt a plethora of skills. Everyone seemed to know each other and it was an unforgettable experience.
What was the highlight of the course?
Alan Lewis… bar none. Alan is the best tutor I have ever had and I believe a blessing to my life. Totally amazing to have worked with him during the course and I’m still working with him nearly a year after… partly because I bug him all the time ;-). I think Alan is a huge asset to the course and the school and I thank him for all he added to my life and career. Thanks Alan!
Do you have any links to your Met Film School projects (youtube link, url)?
Okay this reel is about nine months old but my new reel will be ready in December!
What were the advantages of being taught by industry professionals?
What could possibly be better! you feel the passion for what they do and you aspire to be as good (or better) than them. They also tell you the truth about working in the industry… if you wanna succeed, then hard work should be on the top of your vocabulary. The tutors at the MFS are the real deal… A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
What projects have you worked on since completing your course?
After my moment of slight panic at not finding a job, I started working as an intern at HMX Media; a creative agency and VFX/production company in Soho. I am now working as a producer, still at HMX Media and have been involved in a lot of projects (at different stages of production)
Most recently I did some ‘how-to’ videos for the new Sony eReaders and I am currently working on product tours for the new Nikon Cameras. When they are launched, i will send links over. Until then, it’s top secret!
