Six-Month Post Production

The Six-Month Full-Time Post Production course covers the core expertise and technology required to succeed in a postproduction role, including editing, colour grading and visual effects. This course is suitable for beginners, no previous experience is required.

Six Month Post Production is designed to improve students understanding, knowledge and practice in the following areas:

  • Post production workflows, processes and disciplines
  • Use of Editing to enhance the storytelling process
  • Colour grading techniques to maximise visual impact of films
  • Core skills in visual effects production to the completion of films
  • Delivering a film to market across a range of distribution platforms

What you will study

Students will explore the following key areas during the Six-Month Post Production course:

Post Production Workflow. Students will learn how to move media into a nonlinear editing software, and perform an offline edit, to picture lock and then exporting. Finishing will include using software for audio mixing, VFX corrections, colour grading and delivery. Students will understand different ways to manage media and professional methods and practice to maximise efficiency and discipline.

Creative Edit and the Storytelling Process. Students will learn how to organise media and will be taught the basics of narrative storytelling in post production. Subjects will include timeline organisation and time management.

Colour Grading. Students will learn how to work within a professional finishing tool, how to make primary colour correction, secondary colour correction, delivery to different platforms and how to conform files within complex workflows.

Visual Effects. Students will learn to manage the integration of invisible effects within the editing process necessary to articulate visual effects strategies and workflows.

Digital Deliverables. Students will learn how to create deliverables for a variety of platforms and will learn how compression informs their choices.

Post Production Roles. The role of the editor, the responsibilities and the hierarchy that they in will be reviewed. The changing face of the editorial department and the relationships with other stakeholders. We will also discuss the role of the assistant editor, colourist and some of the roles connected to VFX, how these entities communicate and what they expect from each other in terms of media, data and communication.

WHY METFILM SCHOOL?

  • Based in the world-famous Ealing Studios.MetFilm School is based within Ealing Studios, along with numerous other companies and businesses. Our location creates a great screen industry context for the School but does not bring access to shoots or other studio activities. Watch our London Campus Tour
