SIX-MONTH ACTING FOR FILM

This Six-Month Full-Time course covers the core skills and industry insights that you’ll need to launch a career in acting, from voice and movement techniques to getting ready for castings and auditions. Ideal for those looking to retrain as an actor and build an enhanced understanding of on-set practices and the technical requirements.

While this course is suitable for beginners, we do require a CV and a showreel where possible in order to demonstrate your acting potential. If you are unable to provide this, we ask that you provide a monologue or ‘piece to camera’ as part of your application.


WHY TAKE THE COURSE

The Six-Month Full-Time Acting for Film course provides a comprehensive introduction to the acting techniques in the fast-evolving media industry, covering a broad range of areas of working as an actor. Students will be expected to spend some time off campus going to auditions, meeting casting agents and networking.

  • Learn about the various job opportunities for an actor in today’s market, including acting and voice acting for film, radio and commercials.
  • Become familiar with the filmmaking process, understanding how to work with a film crew on set.
  • Receive introduction to motion capture, an innovative fast-growing area of filmmaking, which focuses on movement in the virtual world.
  • Study the fundamentals of combat movement, essential for action films.
  • Improve your vocal and physical expression and build an understanding of on-screen acting skills and technical aspects of the profession.
  • Participate in a shooting day with a professional film crew.

WHAT YOU WILL STUDY

Students explore the following key areas of study during the Six Month Acting for Film course:

Subtext in Acting – Theory and Practice. Students discover the use, purpose and influences of subtext in performance.

Storytelling in Acting. Address key questions such as what is a story? What makes a story interesting? What is a good script? And how you should set about choosing good roles.

Script Analysis and Performance. Learn how to break down a scene into story beats.

Rehearsal. Examine how to get the most from your rehearsals and be able to put into practice techniques such as improvisation, speaking out an interior monologue and rehearsing the script beat by beat.

Filmmaking Skills. Explore the filmmaking process and understand its stages in broad terms, as well as learning the names and functions of all principal crew members.

Voice and Movement. Sessions focus on voice and movement will develop physical presence and vocal expressiveness as a performer.

Advanced Core Acting Skills. The core acting skills and drawn from the Meisner techniques, Mast, Improvisation, Stanislavski and Clown.

Audition Workshop and Preparation. Sessions will prepare students for the different forms an audition can take and understand how to rehearse and perform an audition piece.

Dialect Workshop. Look at the details of accent and dialogue in order to expand performance capabilities and increase appeal for casting directors.

Portfolio Shoots. Students will take part in a series of portfolio shoots; scenes and monologues.

All productions are filmed with professional cameras, light and sound equipment.

WHY METFILM SCHOOL?

  • Based in the world-famous Ealing Studios.MetFilm School is based within Ealing Studios, along with numerous other companies and businesses. Our location creates a great screen industry context for the School but does not bring access to shoots or other studio activities. Watch our London Campus Tour
