Part-Time Foundation in Screenwriting

Part-Time Foundation in Screenwriting is a twelve-week practical and intensive course for students wanting to learn the fundamental screenwriting skills from developing a cinematic concept to pitching your project to the industry and build an understanding of the screen marketplace and career opportunities for a screenwriter. This course is suitable for beginners, no previous experience is required.

Foundation in Screenwriting is designed to improve the understanding, knowledge and practice in the following core areas:  

  • The lineage of story, idea generation and audience
  • Creating memorable characters
  • Exploring the principles of story structures and theme
  • Understanding the relationship between genre and audience
  • Writing the Scene
  • Dialogue and subtext
  • Pitching to Producers
  • Agents, writing schemes and how to make it as a professional


WHAT YOU WILL STUDY

Students will explore the following key areas during the Part-Time Foundation in Screenwriting course:

Screenwriting. Students explore why stories are important and how they connect to the human experience by looking at the origin of storytelling, including the influence of myths, fairy tales and literature on modern day screen stories.

Film, TV and Online Markets. Students will learn the different tasks and responsibilities of a screenwriter.

Pitching and Networking. Students will learn how to approach an agent and producer and how to present projects with impact. Student will also learn how to communicate effectively to generate interest from various decision makers.

WHY METFILM SCHOOL?

  • Based in the world-famous Ealing Studios.MetFilm School is based within Ealing Studios, along with numerous other companies and businesses. Our location creates a great screen industry context for the School but does not bring access to shoots or other studio activities. Watch our London Campus Tour
  • Occasionally opportunities do arise for our students which are advertised through our career’s advice department, MetFilm Futures. MetFilm School does have its own studio space; Stage 5 – which is mostly used by those studying on our MA Cinematography course. It is also accessible on a case-by-case basis to students shooting films and other kinds of project but has to be booked in advance.
