OVERVIEW

Part-Time Foundation in Documentary:

Part-Time Foundation in Documentary is a twelve-week practical and intensive course for students who want to develop, shoot and pitch their documentary and factual screen content. This course is suitable for beginners, no previous experience is required.


WHY TAKE THE COURSE?

On our Part-Time Foundation in Documentary students will learn shooting skills including camera operating, sound recording, lighting a scene and editing.

Designed to improve students understanding, knowledge and practice in the following areas:

  • The current context of documentary and factual
  • How to construct a narrative in documentary and importance of storytelling
  • Researching, developing, structuring and pitching your ideas
  • Practical documentary and factual shooting skills; camera operating, sound recording, light a scene and editing software

WHAT YOU WILL STUDY

Students will explore the following key areas during the Part-Time Foundation in Documentary course:

The Factual Landscape. Students will examine what is meant by the term ‘factual programming’ and how to generate and develop factual content such as single documentary, constructed documentary, fixed rig and formats.

Camera, Lighting and Sound. Sessions will explore when and how to use elements of image and sound ‘control’ in a variety of factual circumstances including spoken scenarios such as interviews, voice-overs and vox pops.

Adobe Premiere Pro Training. You will cover the key areas of editing, such as image, sound and sequencing, and understand how to organise your workflow appropriately.

WHY METFILM SCHOOL?

  • Occasionally opportunities do arise for our students which are advertised through our career’s advice department, MetFilm Futures. MetFilm School does have its own studio space; Stage 5 – which is mostly used by those studying on our MA Cinematography course. It is also accessible on a case-by-case basis to students shooting films and other kinds of project but has to be booked in advance.
