Overview

Intro to Filmmaking is a two-day weekend course for students who are passionate about film, TV and online video content and would like to explore different filmmaking crafts in a fun and practical way. This course is suitable for beginners, no previous experience is required.

Introduction to Filmmaking is designed to introduce you to the following core areas:

  • Storytelling for the screen
  • Camera, lights and sound
  • Shooting for the edit
  • Creative editing

Students can expect to explore the world of filmmaking and content creation through lectures, workshops and a filming exercise.

The following list is an overview of the topics and themes covered in Intro to Filmmaking. For more information, please download the course outline below.

Visual Storytelling

Students will learn how to tell stories through the use of visual mediums. Students will look at composition, framing, blocking and camera positions and how to engage an audience. Working with images, students will learn the basics of how to tell a story on screen.

Directing

Students will learn about the role of the Director, how to communicate with actors and the key collaborative relationships which are at the core of filmmaking.

Post Production

Students will get to understand the importance of shooting for the edit and be introduced to the craft of editing.

Camera, Lighting & Sound

Students will learn the basics of camera, lighting and sound to enable the production of short filmed exercise.

Final Filming Exercise

Students will collaborate across their group to prep, shoot and edit a short filmed exercise.

Entry Requirements for London

Minimum Age: 18 at the start of the course.

This course is open enrolment and there are no entry requirements.

In order to get the most out of the course, you should be able to both speak and write in English to a reasonable standard.

Please be aware that we have a limited number of places available for each course intake and operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Location: MetFilm School Campus at Ealing Studios.
