Cinematography Courses

Join our cinematography courses. You will learn that cinematography is not just lighting and sound recording – it is about bringing a story to life. Master your craft at cinematography through our hands-on courses, taught by award-winning tutors. Progress your abilities as a cinematographer across a wide range of contexts while you learn the key techniques, creative approaches and organisational skills involved in camera operation.

Through a series of seminars and practical workshops, students will apply key principles of lighting and camera work in an industrial context. Students will work across a range of cinematography disciplines, including still imagery, 35mm and digital processes, location shooting, the DoP/director relationships, and working as a professional member of the camera team.

Students in our cinematography courses will create a range of projects for their growing portfolio, which will enable them to demonstrate a range of industry-relevant skills when they graduate. Students will have the opportunity to work on location, as well as various shooting and technical exercises that will deepen their practical and theoretical knowledge in cinematography. Studying at the historic Ealing Studios provides a dynamic environment for students against the backdrop of the UK’s film and television industries.

Tutors on our cinematography courses and programmes are industry professionals with vast experience in film, television, documentary /factual programming, and advertising. As technology continues to evolve at increasingly faster rates, the heart of this programme is about more than how to operate a particular piece of equipment – it’s about a deeper understanding of storytelling and the moving image in order to communicate something meaningful and entertaining to an audience.

Graduates of this course have won cinematography recognition and have gone on to win awards such as the Best Cinematography award at the 43rd Alcine Film Festival (Rina Yang, BA (Hons) Practical Filmmaking, 2008.)
