MetFilm School Leeds

Overview

MetFilm School Leeds is based within Prime Studios, a state-of-the-art media production facility which includes make-up and wardrobe studios, props storage, as well as cinema and event spaces. Prime Studios has already collected an extensive list of productions, including The Duke, Hope Gap, and The ABC Murders, and is located right next door to ITV Studios, where the flagship soap Emmerdale is filmed.

  • It had long been an ambition of the School to open a campus in a second UK city. Our strategic decision-making since the School’s inception some eighteen years ago has been driven by a desire to make a unique education we offer available to more people. That’s why we started running undergraduate programmes, and later postgraduate programmes. It’s why we opened in Berlin. And it is also why we have opened in Leeds.
  • We are already proud of our association with Yorkshire. In 2017, we exec-produced the multiple award-winning and BAFTA-nominated film God’s Own Country. It is indeed no accident that Yorkshire has long been described as ‘God’s Own Country’, and its picturesque locations have made it a famous haunt for artists and filmmakers.

Why study in Leeds?

An Industry Hub

In recent years, Channel 4 have moved their headquarters to the city, joining ITV and BBC in having a permanent presence in the region, and a host of production companies have made similar moves. When the industry grows, it needs space, as well as talent, and the county is proud to boast several new studio developments.

Support for the Arts

The growing commercial interest in the production sector in Leeds is also well supported by Screen Yorkshire and Leeds City Council, who are putting significant resource into supporting the sector.

A Student City

With five universities already based here, the city has much to offer its diverse, young population. From a range of food and vintage markets to cafes and coffee shops, there truly is something for everyone.

Approved by Tutors

One production which recognised the value of shooting in Leeds was MetFilm School tutor Prano Bailey-Bond’s acclaimed film Censor. The project was executive produced by another School tutor, Naomi Wright, and picked up 23 award nominations, four wins, and a place for Prano on the BAFTA Breakthrough 2021 list.

Excellent Transport Links

The easiest way to travel around Leeds is by bus, although there are also good cycle routes. Where the transport really shines, however, is the access it grants you to the rest of the UK. Leeds Train Station offers direct routes to the likes of Manchester, London, and Edinburgh – in less than two hours, you could be amidst the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales.
